Lisa Cabbage, activity director at Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care in Rutledge, was recently honored as the 2015 Member of the Year by the Activity Coordinators of Tennessee, an affiliate organization of the Tennessee Health Care Association.
Cabbage is an active member of ACT and uses her membership to network with colleagues and develop fresh programming for her residents.
In addition to traditional nursing center activities, the programming at Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care includes Chair Chi, a painting class, and a bell choir that performs at area churches and events. Residents have the opportunity to stay active in the community and attend outings to local attractions such as Dollywood, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, the Knoxville Zoo and Tennessee Smokies baseball games.
Cabbage has been the activity director at Ridgeview Terrace for more than 16 years.
“Lisa is an innovator,” said Karen Bourgeois, senior executive director at the facility, who nominated Cabbage. “She isn’t afraid to try new programming ideas to keep our residents interested and engaged. She believes that quality of life means more than bingo.”
Cabbage accepted the award on Sept. 1 at a special luncheon during THCA’s Convention and Trade Show in Nashville. THCA presents awards annually in a variety of categories in long-term care, from volunteering to distinguished association service.
“Our Awards of Excellence winners are extremely dedicated to creating the best possible environment for Tennessee’s nursing home and assisted living residents,” said Jesse Samples, THCA executive director. “It is a great honor to recognize their achievements and the examples they set for the entire long-term care profession.”
